Medical Volunteering

I have always had a strong interest in global/austere health delivery with a focus on the training and education of healthcare providers in developing countries. My latest research in this field involved studying the effect of volunteer medical missions on the six axes of competency for US graduates. My interest comes from my strong belief that effective healthcare can be delivered in any settings regardless of available resources since sizable gains in healthcare outcomes can be achieved with relatively simple interventions focused on improved operations, culturally-sensitive approaches and professional development of local medical staff. I participated in a medical mission in South Africa, Tanzania, and Vietnam. My collaborative research program connects collaborators from the USA, Switzerland, Poland and the People Republic of China.
